I hate my brain. [Nov. 23rd, 2009|09:52 pm]

What the hell happened to my muse?

I mean jeez, normally this head of mine is an ever-thrashing storm of ideas and stories and crap like that keeping me distracted all day, but for a few months now, I just can't get anything. I just keep rehashing the same stuff over and over again til it gets stale and now I just feel out of ideas and writing feels impossible. Which is really really bad right now as I have a portfolio I need to apply to uni with in a few days and nothing new to put in it.

Maybe I need to get reading and watching stuff to get my imagination started again. TVtropes and laziness has diluted my usual method of stealing ideas from everything, I think now I need more ideas to steal from. That's it, tomorrow I'm going to the library and maybe the movies.

Writer's Block: Nature or nurture [Oct. 29th, 2009|03:12 pm]

Do you think your moods are controlled by your brain chemistry or that your brain chemistry dictates your moods? Do you believe people are born with particular emotional temperaments or that they are primarily shaped by environmental factors?

Bit of column A, bit of column B. Your brain chemistry requires external input to change and produce emotional effects on your thought process. Incidentally, this is a key factor in depression; it's what happens when your brain recieves the 'sad' signal for so long, it gets mode locked into it, and it's very hard to break.

Writer's Block: Do you see psychics in your future? [Sep. 14th, 2009|01:02 pm]

If an online psychic warned you not to leave home, would you cancel plans to attend a party? Would you refuse to date someone with a clashing astrological sign? In short, do you believe?

Hell no and hell no. I need every party invitation and date I can get. Besides, the only fortune telling I trust is my video game sense. Which is why I want that set of Pokemon tarot cards.

From Dr. Polidori's Lord Ruthven to Stephenie Meyer's Edward Cullen, the annals of vampire lore are filled with attractive, charming bloodsuckers. Which one would you most want to be bitten by?

I feel the manliest death one can have at vampiric hands is to have my head ripped off by the jaws of a Blood Angel, the Emperor's finest tragic monsters.

As long as I get to see Edward Cullen burned to a crisp by a meltagun first.

Wish me luck. I'll need it.

Cast is gone! WOOHOO! [Mar. 26th, 2009|11:32 pm]

[Current Mood | thoughtful]

Yesterday I finally had that damn cast taken off my arm. According to the X-ray, there's no broken bones, and the doc said that I'd probably just had a sprain. Wrist was stiff as fuck, and it's still a bit sensitive, so obviously the sprain is gonna take a while to completely heal. But at least my right hand is usable again, and it's slowly feeling better.

In the meantime, I think the computer freezing is FINALLY fixed for good, and my games are now crashing all on their own accord rather than from a consistent problem. The tech guy swapped out the graphics card for a different brand and it doesn't freeze at all anymore. In celebration, I picked up Sins of a Solar Empire and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 on the cheap when I went out to the city. So far, SoaSE is complicated as fuck and doesn't even have a single-player campaign mode for us RTS impaired, while RCT3 is about the same as the previous ones, cept 3D, with swimming pools and zoos, and an interface that I think is a total ripoff of The Sims.

So yeah, life is good. I should be back to work next week, once I tell the boss I'm good again. In the meantime, I might finally get a new bike- the old one is starting to have more problems than good points. My dad says my uncle can get me a good one for a good price, I'll see what I can find.

On way back from train station. Forgot backpack, holding Watchmen in one hand. Bicycle accident inevitable in hindsight. Arm now in cast, setting. X-rays inconclusive. Could be minor break or strain. 3 weeks in cast. Maybe more.

Read Watchmen. Good read. Good movie too. Rorschach morally questionable, but impressive. Typing with left hand imitates his speech patterns. Using for effect.

Sympathy welcome.

MY COMPUTER! SHE IS FIXED!

So, for the last 3 months or so this gorramn computer has been freezing up all the time, and since the computer guy was on Christmas holidays until like, last week, I've considered all kinds of theories from a fan clogged up with dust to gremlins, and in the meantime it's been impossible to play any 3D games- no City of Heroes, Need for Speed or Team Fortress 2? NOOOOOO!

Of course, now I go and get the damn thing in to be fixed, it stops freezing at all. The computer dude suggested everything from a Directx update to a wonky net connection, but after opening it up it turns out to be a single loose wire touching the CPU fan (apparently if the computer was a boss, the CPU would be the glowing bit you have to shoot), causing the core to overheat and the whole thing to freeze. This explains why it froze more on hot days, and was so close to my original theory. I just got the wrong fan.

In the meantime, I've been working a job, going through the convoluted Job Network process and slowly assembling what's becoming quite an army of Lizardmen. I've learned that there's no such thing as overkill when it comes to pinning, and to glue the fiddly bits first. And that Warhammer armies have a fuckload more models than 40k ones, especially if you choose cheap troops. Ima be goin kekeke on those suckers at this rate.

Anyway, if you're looking for me, I'm either washing lots of dishes, playing superhero/villain, or getting the crap shot outta me. Life is good.

Edit: Welp, I spoke too soon. It lasted an hour or so.

Eedit: Hasn't happened since, I think I'm in the clear.

Today marks the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. Obama's campaign was built around a message of change. What changes would you most like to see in the next 4 years?

View Answers

My answer naturally changes every now and then, but really? I think my answer would be the USA. For all its faults, the US is where the big things are happening, where most of my buddies are so I can stalk... er, meet them whether they like it or not, and really... it's just such a big, diverse place that I could spend years there and see all kinds of different things, except that they speak English. Mostly.

Japan would be cool for a short holiday, but I wouldn't want to spend a long time there. The language and cultural barriers would be too much, and I'm not enough of a weeaboo to ignore them. Europe... meh, everybody wants to go to Europe, too popular for me. Although it would be fun to see how much I can get away with by being Australian.

No matter where I end up, I'm gonna make sure to terrify the locals with tales of how ridiculously dangerous Australia is. And then insist they they'd love it there. We do. :D

So I run a few perfect missions without losing a man, and get cocky, pulling research into high gear until my funding is kinda tight. THEN I lose my entire team to yet another terror attack, Britain surrenders to the aliens, and I quit in shame.

Man, games used to be HARD. I don't think I like it.

I come back from a land down under! [Dec. 13th, 2008|12:26 pm]

[Current Mood | happy]

G'day everybody! Your favourite (or least favourite) Australian has returned from the literal middle of nowhere to annoy the world once again! I've been isolated from the internet for about four weeks. Did I miss much?

It's been an interesting adventure, involving Pez, a Nerf pistol, the police, Maxibons, a very very mining town, a monsoonal storm in the desert, jumping over very large puddles, Uluru, Kata Tjuta, various other unpronounceable Aboriginal names, misuse of the term 'internet cafe', cattle, a pub with dozens of bras hanging from the roof, ill-chosen camping spots, zillions upon illions of ants, an Air Force truck driver, captive emus, discussions on the seating preferences of Aboriginal people, a golden crocodile, overpriced magazines, cowardly crocodiles, Australia (the film) at a drive-through, Barack Obama, blackouts, a hotel that reminded me a lot of No More Heroes, an artificial lake bigger than half the natural lakes in the state combined, bats, no water restrictions, a rum distillery, friction burns of ambiguous origin, overprotective drunken uncles, Bushman's insect repellent, catamarans, arachnid hitchhikers and being followed by thunderstorms. Not necessarily in that order.

And I come back to discover not much has changed, except that the government has given me $1000, and the Prime Minister sez that I am to spend it ASAP on consumer goods to prop up the apparently wobbly economy. Well, my dad needs a new washing machine...

I've got the weekend to chill out, and on Monday I'm starting work experience at a restaurant owned by a friend of my godfather (not the mafia type, the silly bartender type), with chance of getting a job if I do well enough. Apparently times are meant to be getting tougher in this economic climate, but I honestly don't think much will happen that will directly affect me at all.

So I feel like I should spend at least a bit of money since I got back, prolly to renew my City of Heroes subscription, I missed that game so much. Oh, and a shame about Sonic Unleashed. At least it's not worse than last time!

Messages from the exact middle of nowhere [Nov. 20th, 2008|04:56 pm]

[Current Mood | chipper]

Hey everybody. Miss me? I'm posting this from an internet cafe (well, a computer store that calls itself an internet cafe. Honestly, all you need these days is a connection and a spare comp or two, no standards...) in Alice Springs. Pretty warm out there, pretty chill in here at least.

At least this place is cheap. Internet access, food and petrol get ridiculously expensive off the beaten track. I've been back to the places I visited last time- I've seen Cooper Pedy, Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Alice Springs. I guess tomorrow I'll see new things as we head north...

Boy, this internet cafe sucks. Not much in the way of inspiration on the road, except for some really, really bad ideas for a musical. If anyone wants to try and pull The Producers off in real life, I can have a script ready within a week.

[Current Mood | calm]

So, we're just finishing up our packing as the morning ends, and getting ready to head up to Port Augusta. This is the last time I'll have access to this computer for four weeks. I'm stuffing everything I think might be nice to take into my suitcase and backpack, and hoping I didn't forget anything too important. (I ALWAYS forget something important)

It's gonna be nice, but it's gonna be a bit of a pain too. I'm gonna miss the madness of the internet, the friends and the freaks and all you silly Americans that I love so much. I'm not gonna be gone forever, so try and keep the place recognisable by the time I get back.

I'll be sure to take photos and to write some stuff down. I'll try to find an internet cafe in Alice Springs and Darwin to catch up on what I can. So no wild parties without me!

Take care of yourselves while I'm gone. Feel free to email me if you want to, I'll catch up on that eventually. So until then...

bbl, road trip.

SCHOOL'S OUT 4 EVA!

Today, I have hastily completed the two essays of my final exam, bolted for the last time across the quadrangle, performed Sonic's trademark victory pose in front of the school, taken the bus and train home and hung up my hat. I will never set foot in Concordia College as a student again. I am no longer a student either; I am now unemployed.

No more homework, no more books, no more teachers' dirty looks... though a couple of my teachers were pretty cool, I'll miss 'em.

But anyway. I leave for Darwin on Sunday morn, and I won't be back for four weeks... I'll try to get on the 'net when I can. Don't you dare go forgetting about me!

[Current Mood | sick]

Gack. I just got home from my mum's yesterday, and was freaking out about school til I realised that it didn't start til tomorrow. So woot. On the downside I've managed to catch some kind of nasty virus from my family, that my dad thought was hayfever and we got some medication but turns out it might not do much. So if I feel this bad tomorrow, I'm taking the day off. I haven't had a sick day all year (or for the past few years, save for serious injuries) so I doubt they'll begrudge me.

It is good to be home. To play my good ol' games, to talk to Kezzie and all of my friends, to be within walking distance of a shopping area and to have a routine to cling to. Downside is that it's the final phase of school, and I'm gonna be bogged down with projects and studying for exams, I already have one overdue oral presentation to write between now and Thursday. Ah, year 12...

I'm on holidays?! When did this happen?!

...*falls to floor*

Yaaaaay.

Been too long since I last updated. Was gonna do a meme, but I decided I don't know quite enough people to pull it off. That and I forgot how to type people's names as links to their journals here. I suck like that.

I should be updating my icons... no idea what to use though. I need a Team Fortress 2 icon, to match the Pokemon, CoH, school and casual ones... any ideas? Don't ask me what my favourite class is, I hop between them all the time. Except for, ironically, the Sniper. I can't hit the side of a barn.

My brain is as scattered as a box of 20 dice, a metaphor brought upon by the general refreshment of Warhammer 40,000 in my life. New edition, new Space Marine codex, the local Games Workshop has been renovated, the whole nine yards. I think it's time to start wasting money again! As soon as they get those big artillery guns in, I'm buying one and converting it to have even bigger barrels. Not compensating for anything, I just have the perfect spare parts on hand to accomplish this! :P

All in all, not really much I can complain about right now. Hence why writing in my LJ is so hard. *shot*

Last night I went and saw The Dark Knight, at last.

It was like being exposed to pure liquid Batman. It was brilliant.

The Joker was more terrifying than ever, sure- the late Heath Ledger made sure nobody would forget him. But the rest of the movie was up to scratch. Damn, is Two-Face freaky.

If you haven't seen it, SEE IT. Your everything will thank you.

On another note, Dad's leaving tomorrow to go on holidays for a week, leaving me home alone. Sooo...

NAKED NINTENDO DAY!
